The Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin and CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports have received substantial improvements in performance, visual appeal, and functionality for the 2024 model year.
New enhancements include increased power and torque in the low and mid rev ranges, a 7% boost in maximum torque delivered earlier in the rev range, and the availability of optional Showa EERA suspension for the CRF1100L Africa Twin.
The CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports sees a shift towards on-road performance with the introduction of a 19-inch front wheel and reduced suspension travel. Both models feature an extensively redesigned front fairing and 5-stage height adjustable screens.
For 2024, Honda's premier adventure bikes showcase significant performance upgrades, integrating new technologies to augment their core capabilities and appeal. The 1084cc parallel-twin engine, central to the Africa Twin family, undergoes substantial enhancements in power and torque, particularly in the low and middle rev ranges. The peak power remains at 75Kw, while maximum torque sees a 7% increase to 112Nm, delivered earlier at 5,500rpm.
Changes in compression ratio, valve timing, intake ports, and ECU settings contribute to extracting more performance from each engine stroke. The exhaust system undergoes modifications, resulting in improved performance and a more pleasing pulse note at lower RPM. Both models offer a choice between manual transmission and Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT), with refined DCT systems benefiting from improved cornering detection and a more natural feel during initial take-off and gear shifts. Honda's best-selling motorcycles from the previous year, the Africa Twin pair, continue to provide versatility with DCT options proving popular among owners.
CRF1100L Africa Twin also introduces the option of Showa EERA suspension, previously exclusive to the Adventure Sports model. Showa EERA provides optimized damping in various riding conditions, along with the ability to adjust the rear spring preload on the move. The 5-mode system allows riders to customize damping settings according to their preferences.
The off-road-focused CRF1100L Africa Twin retains its 21-inch front wheel but now features tubeless Metzler Karoo Street tires for swift puncture repairs. The model also introduces a larger, 5-way adjustable screen for improved visibility or increased wind protection during long-range road rides.
The CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports undergoes significant updates, including a new 19-inch front wheel, a 20mm reduction in suspension stroke, and a wider front tire for enhanced grip and feedback, especially when fully loaded. The front fairing is redesigned to improve wind deflection, and the seat is upgraded for reduced long-distance riding fatigue.
Both models are offered in various colour options, and dedicated accessories, available individually or in four packs (Rally, Adventure, Urban, and Travel), provide customization options for riders.
Since their capacity increase in 2020, approximately 20,000 CRF1100L Africa Twin and 25,000 CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports have been sold in Europe, contributing to the over 85,000 Africa Twin models registered since its return in 2016. The 2024 models are set to arrive in dealers across Europe starting in November 2024.
